    In this semester, it’s an honor for being a part of this class. I have learned some techniques to improve my ability for translation, such as sight translation and numeric conversion. Google translation is an important tool in this class. In the past, I have used Google translation several times because there are proper nouns in the passage. By using GT, problems will be solved immediately. For example, in the subtitle translation three, vocabularies like 老麵 and 爆漿 are hard to translate.

    But if I put it in the GT, I will know that they should be translated into “sourdough” and “succulent” within a second. Next, about the strategy I employed when I use GT for subtitle translation, I translated the video based on the different units instead of the entire passage. During the process, I figured out that words are unable to be translated accurately on GT when pasting the entire passage. . Based on the projects I translated, I found that some proper words aren’t translated correctly while using Google Translate. For example, 三星拱照 is translated into “ Samsung Arch Photo”. It refers to the three gods taking control of wealth, prosperity, and longevity, so the better translation is ”The Three Gods”. Google translation is helpful for the translation tasks in Bantaoyao transcript since there are too many proper nouns and uncommon words that we are unfamiliar with. During the process of creating the bilingual glossary, GT helps me to translate the word and then put it onto the document immediately. Apart from Google Translation, I think peer discussions and teacher feedback were helpful. I find the blind spot and receive many useful suggestions to improve my work.

    Overall, I think using GT to assist translation in this course is helpful. I spend less time searching the vocabulary through the dictionary which is time-consuming and inefficient. However, there are still problems that can be fixed such as the accuracy of the translation. I will keep on using Google Translation if necessary in the future.
